Air conditioning recharge (R12) 4

(1) To top up your air conditioning refrigerant you need to access the low pressure service valve on the air con compressor.  The compressor is located towards the front of the engine bay...

(2) …. near to the direct ignition module.  The valves may be obscured by the HT ignition leads.

(3) The service Schrader valves are like large tyre valves.  There are two - one on the high pressure side (towards the bottom of the car) and one on the low pressure side of the compressor (towards the top of the compressor when viewed from above).  Each valve has a protective dust cap.  Remove the cap from the low pressure (suction) valve.

(4) Gently depress the low pressure valve for a fraction of a second.  A strong hissing sound is an indication that your system does not have a major leak and is suitable for topping up.  If there is no hiss, then refer to a specialist as your system is totally empty.

All science is either physics or stamp collecting.
