Air conditioning recharge (R12) 6 |
(9) Disconnect the refrigerant hose and reconnect the HT lead(s). (10) With the air conditioning turned off, start the engine. (11) Turn the air conditioning switch fully clockwise and the fan speed switch to fast. Check that the engine cooling fans have switched on. There are three cooling fans which are visible from underneath the car level with the front wheels. If the pressure in the system is very low then the cut off switch will stop the fans from operating or the air con compressor clutch from engaging. (12) If the fans are not operating then stop the engine, switch the air conditioning switch to off and repeat steps 7-11 running in another 10 seconds worth of refrigerant until the pressure has been increased sufficiently to overcome the low pressure switch. My air con had not been operational for the 5 years that the previous owner had the car and I had to repeat this process 3 times before the pressure in the system was high enough for the system to become operative. |
